The history of Las Vegas dates back to 1905, yet it became well-known after gambling was permitted in the city during World War II. The building boom began when Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in 1946, costing 9 million dollars. It was incorporated on June 1, 1991.
The Historic Westside School was the first grammar school in West Ls Vegas. It’s the oldest remaining schoolhouse and is listed on the city’s Historic Property Register and the State and National Register of Historic places.
In 1931, the construction of the Hoover Dam brought an influx of workers and gave the economy a boost that was needed during the Great Depression. Also during this year the Las Vegas High School was built, but is now the Las Vegas academy.
In 1941 The Las Vegas Army Air field, now know as Nellis AFB was built. The first themed resort on the strip was the western style El Rancho Vegas hotel and casino.
In 1946 The from Freemont Street to Main to Third Street was named Glitter Gulch by the Chamber of Commerce.
In 1950 At the former U.S. Post office on Stewart Sterrt, now the Mob Museum, Tennessee Congrassman Carey Kefauver held hearing about the mob.
In 1966 Hotels and casinos on Fremont Street and the Strip got facelifts. Howard Hughes helped to pave the way for corporate ownership of hotels and casinos by buying lots of hotels and other businesses.
In the 1980’s the growth in Las Vegas began.
In 1995 the Freemont Street Experience officially began.

Las Vegas, a city in Nevada, has the largest population in the state. The Las Vegas metropolitan area’s GMP (gross metropolitan product) was $145 billion in 2010, making it the 28th largest GMP in the United States. In a normal year, over 40 million people visit Las Vegas. It was the most visited location in the United States by tourists in 2011.
It is known all over the world for its entertainment and has been called “The Entertainment Capital of World.”
With enormous casinos and resorts along dozens of boulevards, this leading tourist destination is called “The Entertainment Capital of World.”
In 2021 the population was estimated to be 651,124. Today, there are many things to see and do in Las Vegas: Gambling, shows, hotels and restaurants with well-known chefs and sports events.
You can discover millions of different things to do for free or a modest investment today: visiting museums, demonstrations, and shows; strolling along the boulevard admiring magnificent hotels and structures; and so on makes your visit worthwhile. Entertainment and shows are available 24 hours a day on all days of the week!
The city of Las Vegas is not only about gambling, but it’s also about entertainment and enjoyment. Because it’s such a beautiful city, many people get married here and make Las Vegas their wedding destination. Some may even get married on the spur of the moment, because wedding chapels are plentiful.

Even though Las Vegas is known for gambling and entertainment, locals prefer to enjoy nature and not spend all their time in casinos or hotels. After visiting Las Vegas, some choose to make this expansive city their permanent home. We’ve even heard of snowbirds making it their second home – or home away from home.
There is no sales tax in Clark County (Las Vegas) which makes shopping very attractive. In addition, casinos offer free entertainment, food, and drinks.
There are so many attractions within walking distance, The Strip is often the place many tourists choose to stay.
The city has something for everyone, and it caters to all interests — whether you like music or theater, riding roller coasters or simply looking at the stars.
Some locals love to visit Mount Charleston during the summer to escape the heat. You can picnic or hike the mountain. During the winter many visit to snow ski or snowboard. Las Vegas is a city that does not go to sleep. From the nightlife to the casinos, there’s something to do at all hours of the day.
However, there are casino’s, museums, and other attractions all over the city. There are so many things to do in Las Vegas that you will never run out of excitement and adventure.
